Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Automotive Mechanic
Compensation will be based on the candidate’s qualifications, skills, and relevant experience.
The position is responsible for supervising and coordinating vehicle maintenance and repair to support the operations of the Cooperative. Provides reliable service in a safe and timely manner to Cooperative vehicles and equipment.
Major Duties- Ensure Cooperative vehicles, trailers and equipment are in good working order and operating in accordance with industry standards.
- Carry out all necessary activities for the repair and maintenance of Cooperative vehicles and associated equipment, including diagnosing, adjusting, vehicle hydraulic systems and dielectric equipment.
- Perform welding repairs and limited vehicle body work.
- Perform limited fabrication and repair of fiberglass body work.
- Maintain records of maintenance history and work completed on Cooperative vehicles and shall be responsible for ensuring vehicles receive scheduled maintenance no later than the schedule determined by the manufacturer.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of parts to ensure equipment can be repaired in a timely fashion.
- Coordinate vehicle and equipment repairs with local dealerships and vendors.
- Assist with the development and review of specifications for new vehicle and equipment purchases.
- Perform safety inspections for the purpose of licensing Cooperative transportation equipment in compliance with federal DOT and state and federal regulations.
- Keep assigned work area, vehicles, tools and equipment neat and orderly.
- Responsible for providing a safe work environment.
- High School diploma or GED is required.
- At least two (2) or more years of automotive service and repair experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of Cummins Insite, Davey, and other engine/system diagnostic software and equipment.
- Training in the maintenance/repair of hydraulic systems used in personnel lifts preferred.
- Strong understanding and the ability to utilize English, spelling and arithmetic.
- Ability to maintain accurate records, as well as develop reports, sketches and drawings.
- Ability to operate with thorough knowledge of all safety rules and regulations, tools and vehicles.
- Ability to interpret diagrams, sketches, reports and other engineering plans.
- Ability to learn the Cooperative's policies, rules and regulations.
- Ability to build and maintain positive public relations for the Cooperative
- Ability to demonstrate a personality which is pleasant, cooperative and mature.
- Ability to work nights and weekends, as required on an intermittent basis.
- Ability to walk and stand to a significant degree.
- Ability to stand, lift, carry, push, pull, balance, stoop, reach, handle, talk, hear, see, grasp, move head and neck and movement across mid-line.
- Lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to one hundred (100) pounds, with frequent lifting of objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and platforms.
- Finger dexterity, manual dexterity, alertness, precision, form perception, motor coordination, auditory discrimination and tactile discrimination.
- Outside/outdoor environment includes extreme hot and cold temperatures, as well as wet and/or humid weather conditions.
- Mechanical or electrical burn and chemical hazards possible with moderate risk of injury.
- Minimal possibility of exposure to toxic wastes.
- Frequently stressful atmosphere with long or irregular hours.
