Overview

The City of El Mirage is seeking a proactive Senior Systems Administrator for our Information Technology Department to support city operations, requiring skills in hardware/software support, system administration, and help desk troubleshooting.

Senior System Administrators are critical to ensuring the City of El Mirage functions without disruptions and is free of network threats. System maintenance, such as patches and updates, is a vital component of day-to-day tasks. Troubleshooting complex support issues while supporting internal customers is imperative to establishing operational effectiveness and efficiency. Responsibilities
  • Performs scripting and programming (e.g., Power Shell, Python).
  • Performs systems maintenance such as patches and updates.
  • Provides application support as a tier two/tier three escalation point.
  • Configures servers, workstations, and applications.
  • Evaluates, recommends, and implements hardware and software replacement needs.
  • Manages and monitors system storage capacity.
  • Performs system backups for services.
  • Serves as help desk escalation point.
  • Provides customer service to internal customers.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
Knowledge
  • Principles and practices of technology procurement.
  • Software application, programming language and system functionality related to area of assignment.
  • Application software support and maintenance practices and methods, as assigned.
  • Network administration and maintenance, as assigned.
  • Technical working knowledge of networks, telephony, and data center components.
  • Microsoft Windows operating systems, virtual machine software (e.g., VMware) and supporting vendor programs.
  • Data center operation, emergency operations center, backup data center/data recovery center including cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations, as assigned.
  • Principles of network design (OSI Model) and integration, including subnetting, super-netting, topologies, and protocols, as assigned.
  • Network operating systems, PCs, and related equipment.
  • Converged network architectures, VoIP systems, as assigned.
  • Network administration, network device hardware and software configuration, as assigned.
  • Principles and practices of data security management.
  • Operating system policy management and set up procedures.
  • Development of system and user documentation.
  • Troubleshooting and diagnostic methods, applications, and equipment.
  • Current industry trends and best practices.
  • Customer service principles.

  • Interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards, as assigned.

  • Maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to safety standards.
  • Safely operating a motor vehicle.
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in management information systems or directly related field and 1 year of progressively responsible IT network and systems administration; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.

Certifications/Licenses
  • Arizona Class D Driver’s License.
  • AZ DPS Terminal Operator Certificate, Level D, within three months of employment.
Continuing Employment Requirements

Maintain all required certifications and licenses upon job entry and within the specified timeframe.
