L3 Data Center Deployment Technician
Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) organization is seeking an experienced L3 Data Center Deployment Technician to support large-scale data center expansion, network deployment, operational support, and AI infrastructure initiatives across Microsoft's global data center footprint. This is a senior-level, hands-on technical position focused on the deployment, troubleshooting, and support of critical network and compute infrastructure in hyperscale environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in new-build data center deployments, network infrastructure implementation, and advanced troubleshooting of production environments.
This role requires individuals who can independently diagnose and resolve complex issues, support high-priority escalations, and maintain deployment momentum during business-critical operational events. Candidates should be comfortable working in rapidly changing environments and partnering with engineering, operations, and deployment teams to ensure successful project execution. Due to the growing importance of AI infrastructure, candidates with experience supporting GPU networking environments and large-scale compute deployments are highly desired.
Key Responsibilities
- Network Deployment & Infrastructure Support
- Deploy, install, validate, and troubleshoot network infrastructure in active and new-build Microsoft data centers.
- Support front-end and back-end network deployment activities, including network stamp deployments and capacity expansion projects.
- Perform installation, testing, and troubleshooting of switches, routers, optics, copper cabling, and fiber infrastructure.
- Support large-scale deployment programs while ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and operational standards.
- Conduct post-deployment validation and connectivity testing to ensure infrastructure readiness.
- Advanced Troubleshooting & Operational Support
- Act as an L3 escalation resource for complex deployment and production issues.
- Troubleshoot Layer 1 through Layer 3 networking issues involving hardware, optics, cabling, and connectivity.
- Quickly identify root causes, develop corrective actions, and drive issues through resolution.
- Support critical operational events and high-priority escalations without impacting deployment schedules.
- Partner closely with Network Engineering, Operations, and other technical teams to resolve infrastructure issues.
- GPU & AI Infrastructure Support
- Support deployment and operational activities within GPU-enabled and AI-focused data center environments.
- Assist with implementation and troubleshooting of GPU back-end networking infrastructure.
- Support validation and operational readiness of AI and machine learning compute clusters.
- Troubleshoot network connectivity challenges associated with large-scale compute environments.
- Data Center Operations
- Perform rack-and-stack activities for network and compute infrastructure.
- Complete hardware break/fix activities, upgrades, refreshes, decommissions, and lifecycle management tasks.
- Investigate and resolve fiber optic and copper cabling issues.
- Support deployment, relocation, and installation efforts across multiple data center locations.
- Maintain accurate documentation and asset tracking throughout deployment projects.
Schedule & Work Environment
Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 9 hours per day (approximately 45 hours per week). Must be flexible to adjust shifts, schedules, and start times based on business needs, deployment windows, and operational priorities. Opportunities for overtime are available, with technicians able to work up to 60 hours per week based on project demand and business requirements. Must be comfortable working in active construction, deployment, and production data center environments.
Travel between Microsoft data center locations may be required depending on project needs and deployment schedules. Ability to support occasional after-hours maintenance windows, escalations, and critical operational events.
