GENERAL SUMMARYRelationship Manager (RM) serves in lending teams, handling both client‑facing business development and portfolio management. The RM identifies and brings new loan clients, negotiates and structures loan terms, collaborates with underwriters and loan staff, presents Credit Commitment Reports (CCR), ensures loan documentation accuracy, manages the credit quality of assigned portfolios, and mentors junior staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Identify and bring new clients to the Bank; each RM has a specific new loan commitment/outstanding goal set by their Team Manager annually.
- Negotiate and structure primary loan terms with the client; circulate concept memo if needed prior to issuance of term sheet/LOI.
- Work with designated underwriters, loan assistants and other support staff to prepare the Credit Commitment Report (CCR) for new loans, renewals, amendments and annual reviews.
- Present each CCR to the requisite approval authority levels; the RM is ultimately responsible for the content.
- Review loan documents, internal or by outside counsel, to ensure accuracy.
- Work with loan assistants and support staff to ensure all necessary items for loan closing are in process and well‑managed; the RM manages the client experience of this process.
- Monitor and manage the credit quality of the assigned loan portfolio.
- Ensure each credit is properly risk‑rated according to the Bank’s system.
- Review clients’ accounts and portfolios to identify, evaluate, and determine appropriate actions on potential credit quality issues to maximize credit quality and minimize risk and potential loss.
- Ensure compliance with Bank, regulatory and credit requirements, emphasizing best‑in‑class customer service while adhering to required time frames.
- Assist in mentoring and coaching junior officers and loan staff.
- U.S. college graduate with a major in related fields.
- 7–10 years of commercial lending and banking experience with thorough knowledge of lending regulations and credit/underwriting practices.
- Extensive loan negotiation experience (rates, terms, collateral requirements).
- Previous underwriting experience in the requisite area of commercial lending.
- Extensive knowledge of the Bank’s credit policy, risk management, underwriting requirements and loan servicing.
- Strong knowledge of commercial and specialty group banking products and services and demonstrated ability to cross‑sell such products.
- PC proficiency.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Bilingual (English/Mandarin or Cantonese) a plus but not required.
- Ability to work independently to structure loans and/or lines of credit.
- Organized and detail oriented; able to multi‑task.
- Effective in a fast‑paced, high‑production, team environment.
- Excellent time‑management skills and accustomed to working with deadlines.
- Ability to assume responsibility and accountability for decision‑making.
- Effective communication across all levels of Bank personnel.
$130K - $170K per year, pay determined by job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. The position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.
