Requirements- Education and Experience: A High School diploma, GED or higher and three (3) years of experience in public safety dispatching or call taking. Must successfully pass an audiogram, drug screen and stringent background investigation.

Certifications:
American Heart Association CPR Health Provider (or equivalent);
Basic First Aid;
International Academy of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) certifications;
Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) certification;
Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) certification;
Priority Dispatch Pro-QA certification;
Basic Telecommunicator and Crisis Communications certifications from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). All must be maintained throughout employment. - Special Requirements: Must be a current U.S. citizen (per requirement of TCOLE licensure).
Under direction, oversee and assist with emergency and non‑emergency calls for service, radio activity and computer dispatch functions; supervise and integrate the activities and personnel of the emergency communications division on an assigned shift to ensure all calls for service are properly documented and appropriately handled in a timely manner.
Typical DutiesShift Management: Provide direction to and supervise communicators on an assigned shift. Assign, schedule, guide and monitor work; ensure adequate personnel are on duty. Review calls for quality assurance; review payroll and leave records; ensure accuracy of teletype transactions. Serve as liaison between communications management and line personnel. Appraise employee performance; provide training, motivation, conflict resolution, and advise supervisors of ongoing incidents.
Administrative Support: Monitor all communications systems, troubleshoot minor problems, notify technicians. Maintain security; ensure accuracy of information logs; initiate call‑outs for special units; liaise with other city departments and external agencies; alert and brief officials on major public service emergencies; investigate complaints regarding public safety communications operations.
Training: Identify training needs, develop and conduct training programs, including TCLEOSE telecommunicator and TCIC/NCIC certification. Prepare lesson plans and conduct teaching assignments for other public safety training programs.
