We are seeking an experienced Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to oversee all safety-related activities on a federal construction project. This individual will be responsible for ensuring compliance with EM 385-1-1, OSHA regulations, contract requirements, and company safety policies while promoting a proactive safety culture across the project team.
Responsibilities- Serve as the designated SSHO for federal construction projects.
- Ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety requirements.
- Conduct daily site safety inspections and document findings.
- Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training.
- Review, implement, and enforce Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain all required safety documentation, reports, and records.
- Coordinate with project management, subcontractors, and government representatives regarding safety matters.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance and enforce site safety standards.
- Promote a strong safety culture across all project personnel.
- 5+ years of experience serving as an SSHO on federal construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of USACE safety requirements and EM 385-1-1.
- Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
- Experience conducting site inspections, safety training, and incident investigations.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and safety requirements.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic safety documentation.
- Preferred Qualifications:
Current First Aid/CPR certification. Experience supporting USACE, NAVFAC, DoD, or other federal construction projects. Additional safety certifications or professional safety credentials are a plus.
