Key Areas of Responsibility
- Participates in course administration and instruction for the dental school curriculum
- Develops and delivers an integrated curriculum, which blends basic science and clinical concepts, in collaboration with faculty members in other disciplines
- Employs multiple teaching methods including case-based instruction, large- and small-group discussion, lecture, demonstration, simulation, team-based learning, and distance education
- Mentors students in the laboratory on developmental biology projects
- Provides formative and summative assessment of dental student performance
- Provides individual support, feedback, and advice to dental students
- Works closely with the course and curriculum committees, fellow faculty, and key administrators to accomplish the goals and objectives of the dental school's curriculum
- Engages in advancement of scientific knowledge through research and/or scholarship
- Serves the academic community through participation in institutional governance, such as committee work and other administrative duties
- Contributes to the community through academically related public service complementary to the institutional mission
- Adheres to institutional policies and procedures
- Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility
- Upholds and promotes the values-based culture of TTUHSC El Paso
- Ph.D. or equivalent degree in genetics, developmental biology, developmental genetics, craniofacial biology, stem cell biology, or equivalent related specialty
- A minimum of three years of experience in teaching developmental genetics or craniofacial development at the level of higher education
- Experience in teaching clinically-integrated human craniofacial development for dental students
- Experience in the use of medical/dental laboratory findings and clinical case-based scenarios in the teaching of human craniofacial development
- Experience in the development and delivery of an integrated dental curriculum
- Experience with innovative teaching methods such as interactive large and small group formats, laboratory-based instruction, team-based learning, case-based learning, problem-based, and distance education learning
- Experience with curriculum management software systems
- Participation in national organizations or committees devoted to dental education
- Demonstration of research excellence in their field
- Demonstration of productive research collaborations and interdisciplinary research
- Demonstration of post-doctoral training related to developmental biology or craniofacial genetics
- Experience in mentoring students in the laboratory
- Experience in the development of grant proposals and the management of extramural funding
- Experience in dental education scholarship
- Emerging or established regional or national reputation for associate professor or higher rank
