Responsibilities
- Provide direct tutorial, training, and instructional lab assistance and support to students, instructors, and laboratory personnel in classroom and lab settings.
- Assist students with course and laboratory assignments in the classroom and open laboratory environment, individually or in small groups, to demonstrate or review material covered in lectures, procedures, and use of equipment.
- Review completed student work assignments and suggest resource material for study.
- Assist in the preparation of instructional materials, including setting up lab equipment and supplies needed for laboratory assignments.
- Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained and the lab is kept clean; perform routine equipment repairs and maintenance.
- Develop and program computer tutorials; facilitate computer testing, collect exams, and maintain grade data.
- Monitor student and staff activities to ensure a safe learning environment.
- Provide orientation to faculty, staff, and students in the use of lab equipment, supplies, and materials.
- Develop and maintain an inventory system for instructional materials and equipment, including computer hardware and software.
- Coordinate distribution and retrieval of classroom resources in a self‑paced learning environment; maintain usage records and monitor material returns.
- Issue tools, materials, and equipment to students and instructors; coordinate distribution and retrieval of classroom and lab resources; assist with picking up supplies such as fabric, tile, laminate, wood, paint, or window samples; organize, classify, and file incoming samples; update, sort, replace, or donate outdated samples.
- Administrative support duties: ordering supplies, procuring quotes for equipment requests; following up on orders; receiving, verifying, and filing supplies; preparing work orders and design requests; greeting visitors, answering and screening telephone calls, and providing program information to students.
- Attend required workshops and perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent and at least two (2) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. (Transcript required.)
- Ability to operate assigned equipment and troubleshoot and maintain lab equipment, including routine repair and service.
- Experience assisting individuals in a lab setting and conducting orientations.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and multi‑tasking skills.
- Experience compiling data, generating reports, and developing and maintaining inventory records.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear; frequently required to walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel; occasionally required to lift or move up to 30 pounds; duties may cause light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, or repetitive motion.
