The Lead Coordinator is responsible for overseeing comprehensive services for students with disabilities, working with minimal supervision and significant autonomy. This role involves assessing student needs, providing disability‑related counseling, and coordinating accommodations and support services that promote academic success and campus inclusion. The Lead Coordinator also serves as a key advisor to students, faculty, and staff on disability accommodations, accessibility, and best practices.
ResponsibilitiesStudent Intake & Counseling
:
Conduct intake interviews to assess students with disabilities' academic and support needs. Maintain a caseload, documenting interactions, case notes, and relevant records both electronically and on paper. Provide ongoing disability‑related academic counseling to support student success.
Assessment & Accommodation Planning
:
Review intake forms, medical records, and diagnostic evaluations to assess eligibility for services and determine appropriate accommodations in compliance with University policies, ADA, and other legal guidelines. Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure effective implementation of accommodations.
Compliance & Record Management
:
Ensure all documentation related to disability services and accommodations complies with FERPA, ADA, and other applicable laws. Maintain accurate, confidential records in accordance with University retention policies.
Accommodations & Support
:
Assess and implement appropriate accommodations based on students' specific disability‑related needs, in consultation with clinicians, therapists, and other professionals. Oversee the process of determining and implementing accommodations for students, including academic adjustments, auxiliary aids, and services. Ensure accommodations are provided in a timely and effective manner across all areas, including exams, classroom settings, housing, and extracurricular activities. Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to ensure that course materials and teaching methods are accessible to all students.
Utilize problem‑solving skills to address issues and prioritize the needs of students effectively.
Case Management & Documentation
:
Manage a caseload of students with disabilities, ensuring that their accommodations are implemented and properly documented. Maintain accurate records of student accommodations, services provided, and any interactions with students to ensure confidentiality and compliance with university policies and legal requirements. Use case management software to track student progress, accommodations, and services, ensuring seamless communication and efficient service delivery.
Faculty & Staff Collaboration
:
Serve as a resource for faculty and staff, providing guidance on the implementation of accommodations and best practices for accessibility. Consult with faculty and other campus stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate accommodation implementation. Supervise, mentor, and train Disability Services Coordinators to ensure high‑quality support for students with disabilities. Foster an inclusive team culture, encouraging professional development and continuous improvement in service delivery.
Advocacy & Outreach
:
Assist students in understanding their rights and responsibilities under disability law, advocating for necessary accommodations. Facilitate conflict resolution between students, faculty, and staff regarding accommodations. Lead outreach and training efforts on ADA compliance, disability rights, and inclusive practices.
