Overview
Under the guidance of a Counselor, the Academic Advisor is responsible for providing career exploration, articulation, and related services. The position is essential for student enrollment, recruitment, and retention, and requires in‑person campus work.
Responsibilities- Advise new and current students through structured interviews, academic advising, goal setting, and career exploration on a semester basis.
- Assist students in developing degree plans and class schedules that support their educational and career goals.
- Participate in student success initiatives, collaborating with faculty and staff.
- Support recruitment and retention efforts by working with faculty and staff.
- Conduct New Student Orientation, educational seminars, and workshops for students, faculty, and staff on student success strategies.
- Provide professional support to Counselors, including monitoring and following up with students on academic progress.
- Recommend and implement internal operational standards, policies, and procedures; evaluate effectiveness and recommend changes.
- Assist students in resolving issues that interfere with academic success by referring them to appropriate services such as Career Services, tutoring, and mental health.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree and at least three (3) years of related experience, or equivalent education and experience.
- Experience working in a college or university setting.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to interpret and implement policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of degree planning and use of a college/university integrated system.
- Security‑sensitive position; candidate must pass a criminal background check.
The employee must regularly stand, walk, sit, handle, reach, and lift. Requirements include lifting up to 25 pounds regularly, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 100 pounds occasionally, as well as adequate vision and hearing.
