First-Year Pathway Lead Advisor

The First-Year Pathway Lead Advisor provides advising, support, mentoring, and guidance to all prospective and current students in an adjusted caseload under the Holistic Case Management Advising model. The model requires the First-Year Pathway Lead Advisor to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and other advisors to conduct retention and completion interventions in and out of the classroom. In-person work on campus is an essential function of this position.

Provide comprehensive academic and career advising by developing Student Educational Plans that align with students’ short-term and long-term educational and career goals. Serve as a primary liaison between students, community employers, and industry partners to ensure First-Year Pathway programs support informed career exploration, workforce readiness, and meaningful employment outcomes.

Interpret test results and high school transcript information to place students in appropriate level courses using holistic advising. Review and evaluate previous college transcripts, recommend transfer equivalencies, course substitutions, and ensure accurate course placement.

Engage in proactive, holistic advising approaches, including caseload management, strategic outreach and engagement, and tracking progress toward goal completion.

Provide interventions and strategies to support students through a variety of academic and non-academic challenges.

Advise and coach students in creating an academic and career plan which includes potential course substitutions, student petitions, and the necessary documentation required to request institutional approval.

Develop and implement an Early Alert process by collaborating with faculty to provide timely feedback on students' academic progress, identify students whose behaviors indicate a need to strengthen academic success strategies, and refer them to appropriate support services, including academic skills assistance, tutoring, counseling, or career guidance.

Lead and participate in functional area teams, including transfer advising, career advising, and new student advising. Support special populations, including Military Veterans, International Students, Health, Advanced Technology Center (ATC) students, and Dual Credit students.

Administer, interpret, and apply non-cognitive and career assessments to support student advising and career planning using current best practices related to student retention and success.

• 1. Bachelor’s Degreeand six (6) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

• 6. Working knowledge of student retention, completion, and Early Alert processes to monitor progress and implement interventions.
• 7. Strong consultation and advisory skills in collaborating with faculty, staff, and management to address academic, personal, and procedural challenges.
• 8. Ability to plan and guide students in creating short and long-term educational and career pathway objectives.
• 9. Knowledge of transcript evaluation, test interpretation, and course placement procedures, applying specialized understanding to support degree completion and transfer goals.
