Job Description
Job Summary
AECOM is seeking an ITS Project Manager to support municipal transportation clients across Texas, with positions available in Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, or El Paso. This is a hybrid position which serves as the technical and project lead for mid- to large-scale Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) projects, delivering integrated solutions that enhance safety, mobility, and system performance for public agencies.
The selected candidate will lead the planning, design, and implementation of advanced ITS infrastructure including communications networks, system integration, transit signal priority, and connected corridor technologies. This role requires strong technical depth, client engagement capability, and demonstrated experience managing scopes, schedules, and budgets for municipal transportation programs.
This position plays a strategic role in supporting regional growth, strengthening client relationships, and contributing to pursuit and capture efforts within Texas municipal and transit markets.
Key Responsibilities
* Serve as Lead Engineer and Project Manager on mid- to large-scale ITS projects.
* Provide specialized technical expertise in ITS planning, design, and system integration.
* Lead development of technical studies, detailed design packages, and implementation strategies.
* Present complex technical solutions and recommendations to municipal and transit clients.
* Perform quality control reviews and approve technical work prepared by project teams.
* Develop project scopes, schedules, engineering budgets, and resource plans.
* Coordinate across multidisciplinary teams including traffic, roadway, rail, and communications.
* Prepare and contribute to technical proposals, fee estimates, and pursuit strategies.
* Support business development efforts and maintain strong client relationships with municipal agencies.
* Ensure compliance with applicable state, local, and federal transportation standards.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field, plus 8 years of relevant traffic engineering and/or ITS experience or demonstrated equivalency of education and experience.
* Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
* 12+ years of related ITS and traffic engineering experience.
* Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of hire, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
* Experience managing engineering design and/or planning projects across the full project lifecycle.
* Direct experience supporting municipal, transit, or county transportation agencies.
* Experience with rail and transit ITS systems.
* Demonstrated success in business development, municipal client engagement, and pursuit leadership.
* Technical experience in one or more of the following:
* Flood warning and weather monitoring systems
* Fiber optic detailed design
* 5G wireless infrastructure design
* Transit signal priority
* Rail and train signal systems
* System integration
* Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) systems
* Tolling systems
* Experience coordinating with MPOs, transit agencies, and regional planning organizations.
* Active engagement in relevant professional organizations.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
