Eaton’s Electrical sector, Commercial Products and Assemblies (CPA) division is currently seeking a Divisional Switchboard Chief Engineer for Panel board & Switchboards produce lines. This role may be located at Sumter, SC (preferred), El Paso, TX, Morrisville, NC, or Smyrna, GA, and relocation is available. A hybrid work model (3 onsite/2 remote) is available.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Chief Engineer serves as the technical subject matter expert for the product line across the CPA group. They define strategic direction, establish priorities, and indirectly lead site teams to achieve business objectives across the division. The Chief Engineer provides a broad, forward‑looking vision of future products and technologies, and offers expert consultation within their area of specialization.
They lead a diverse range of projects, conducting feasibility studies to ensure objectives are met on time and within budget. The role also manages relationships with external suppliers and collaborates with cross‑functional teams to identify issues, develop solutions, and drive them to completion.
- Highest level technical expert in the product line. Consults with all levels of the organization on Innovation, New Product Introduction, and customer/production technical issues.
- Drives skill development and routinely mentor others in technical specialties.
- Drive Innovative products and concepts across the product line. Innovation mindset to challenge the status quo of product solutions. Drive next gen products to feed Innovation Funnel and Product Roadmaps.
- Supervises file maintenance for the product line UL and CSA files. Responsible for product compliance to standards, payments of invoices associated with 3rd party work. Responsible for VN resolution for all product line related plants.
- Active participant in codes and standards organizations as necessary, UL, NEC, CSA, NEMA, CANENA. Monitors codes and standards related to the product line. Reports out and drives action at the division level on 3rd party proposals that could impact any product line in the division.
- Review designs and product standards.
- Responsible for ensuring tests are conducted in a safe manner, following all safety rules and procedures to meet objectives.
- Minimum 10 years’ of product design experience in power distribution equipment with proven subject matter expertise in designing products that conform to UL standards (For example, UL50, UL67, and UL 891)
- Proficiency in Engineering software/tools (AutoCAD, Enovia)
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution

- Certification for Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)
- Experience as a technical design expert for liability/legal assessments
- Experience as chairman of a UL standards committee
- Good verbal and written communication skills, persuasive skills, and analytical problem‑solving skills.
- Collaborative spirit working with individuals and groups to effectively partner in a dispersed, matrix work environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Up to 10% of your time traveling.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $130,000 - $190,000 a year. This role is also eligible for a variable incentive program.
