Requirements

  • MOS Code: 2G051 (Air Force), 54A (Army), 25 (Coast Guard), 3450 (Marine Corps), B15A (Navy)
  • Education and Experience:

    Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Business, Public Administration, Transportation, Urban or Regional Planning, Design, or a related field plus two (2) years of professional experience in urban or regional planning.
  • Licenses and Certificates:
    Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License by time of appointment or equivalent from another state.
General Purpose

Under general supervision, perform professional planning work in the administration and implementation of the comprehensive plan, transportation systems, or parks planning.

Typical Duties
  • Plan, prepare, and produce technical planning material related to assigned work, including highly technical research and analysis, evaluation of findings, and development of recommendations on complex projects.
  • Produce technical material on subdivisions, zoning‑related items, transportation planning, parks planning, land studies, urban design, site analysis, and related planning documents; assist and guide staff.
  • Coordinate and participate in the analysis of plans and projects, meet with private and public sector professionals, review preliminary and final plats and design plans, and process applications to ensure compliance with state and local regulations and the city’s comprehensive plan.
  • Conduct survey and research property ownership, prepare transportation and park‑planning recommendations, and support ordinance revisions and other planning items.
  • Research and manage grant funding, including identifying opportunities, developing plans, writing proposals, managing budgets, and preparing reports to federal agencies and long‑term planning documents.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the department and external stakeholders, respond to requests for information, prepare comprehensive reports and recommendations, attend board and committee meetings, and provide input for department budget preparation.
  • Supervise assigned personnel: schedule, assign, instruct, evaluate performance, provide training, and recommend hiring or disciplinary actions.
