Controls Engineer

Marathon Petroleum is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, implement, and maintain control systems supporting our refining and energy operations. In this role, you will program and troubleshoot PLC/DCS/SCADA systems, integrate field instrumentation, and optimize process control for safety, reliability, and efficiency. You will collaborate with operations, maintenance, and project teams to support capital projects, ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards, and drive continuous improvement in plant performance within a performance-driven, safety-focused culture.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, and maintain PLC, DCS, and SCADA control systems for refining operations.
• Integrate and troubleshoot field instrumentation, control loops, and HMI interfaces.
• Support capital and maintenance projects, including control system scope, design, and commissioning.
• Ensure control systems comply with safety, environmental, and corporate standards.
• Analyze process data to improve reliability, safety, and energy efficiency.
• Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to resolve control-related issues.
• Develop and maintain control narratives, P&IDs, logic diagrams, and documentation.
