The Budget Accountant is responsible for managing the organization's budgeting process and ensuring accurate financial planning to maintain financial integrity. This role supports the financial stability of the nonprofit organization by overseeing budget development, monitoring performance against approved budgets, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. Evaluates the effectiveness of financial controls and risk management practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, prepare, and maintain the annual budget.
- Work with department heads to gather and analyze budget data.
- Monitor budget performance and prepare monthly budget reports.
- Provide variance analysis and recommendations for budget adjustments.
- Assist in long-term financial planning and forecasting.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends and provide insights.
- Prepare financial models to support strategic decision-making.
- Plan and conduct internal audits to assess financial controls and compliance.
- Review and evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls.
- Prepare detailed audit reports with findings and recommendations.
- Follow up on audit recommendations to ensure implementation and compliance.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, GAAP, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare financial reports for management, the Board of Directors, and external stakeholders.
- Perform detailed financial analysis to support budgeting and auditing activities.
- Analyze and interpret financial data to provide insights and recommendations.
- Assist in the development of financial strategies and initiatives.
- Participate in special projects and perform other related duties as assigned by the Senior Accountant.
Required/Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required; or an equivalent combination of education and at least five (5) years of relevant budgeting experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in budgeting, financial planning, and accounting
- Experience in the nonprofit sector preferred.
