POSITION TITLE: District Accountant
FLSA: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
Four years of progressively advanced experience in general ledger, budget reporting, payroll, tax reporting, audit, Microsoft Office, and school accounting. Experience with Ascender (TxEIS) software preferred. CPA candidate preferred. Master’s degree preferred. Bilingual preferred.
REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer and/or Central Office Administrator
PAY RANGE: $60,000 – $75,000 annually
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 240 days with benefits provided in accordance with the Employment Agreement.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Record the collection of all funds (except taxes) due to the district and deposit them in the manner prescribed by law.
- Record the disbursement of district funds in accordance with board policy, the adopted school budget, and state and federal law.
- Prepare monthly budget comparison reports.
- Assist the CFO in yearly budget preparation.
- Assist the CFO in Federal and State Audits.
- Supervise and manage the daily operations of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable departments.
- Work with the outside auditor by providing all required reports and data.
- Perform account analysis.
- Enter general ledger transactions for daily operations.
- Work closely with the Payroll department for reporting purposes.
- Conduct bank reconciliations.
- Prepare grant reporting and coding.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Abide by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations.
- Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
The candidate should be able to work in a fast‑paced environment, work under pressure, adapt to changes, provide customer service, multitask, and stay up to date on IT technology.
