Job Summary
Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care for patients based on established clinical nursing practice standards. Provides timely medical/forensic examination of the sexual assault/forensic patient under the authorization of a law enforcement agency or adult or Child Protective Services. Utilizes knowledge of patient’s age and cultural diversity in the provision of patient care.
Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care.
- Possesses critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.
- Possesses effective interpersonal relationship skills.
- Ability to utilize computers for documentation purposes.
- Technically competent in tasks within the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
- Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
Three years of experience as a Registered Nurse is required, preferably in a hospital based acute care setting in the following areas: SANE, Trauma, Emergency Department, ICU, Pediatrics, Woman’s Health or other related field.
License/Registration/Certification- Current and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas is required.
- Current BLS training is required.
- Completion of the ACLS training within 6 months of being in the department is required.
- Completion of the PALS training within 6 months of being in the department is required.
- Certified Adult Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (CA-SANE) and Certified Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (CP-SANE) through the Texas Office of Attorney General (OAG) is required.
Bachelor degree in Nursing is required.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (TNCC/ATCN)
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
