Medical Assistant – Infusion Department

We are seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our Infusion team. This role is vital in supporting infusion nurses and ensuring a smooth, compassionate experience for patients undergoing cancer treatment.

Responsibilities
  • Patient Care & Coordination: welcome patients, escort them to exam or treatment rooms, obtain and record vital signs, chief complaints, and ensure accurate charting.
  • Assist with patient flow and coordination in a busy outpatient infusion setting.
  • Facilitate communication between patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team (nurses, social workers, nutritionists, and other specialists).
  • Field patient questions and manage incoming calls to support clear communication.
  • Clinical Support: administer medications and injections (intramuscular and subcutaneous) as delegated by a licensed nurse or physician, within scope of practice.
  • Retrieve pertinent medical records from the hospital EMR.
  • Treatment Area Maintenance: clean and disinfect treatment chairs and all non-porous surfaces using EPA‑registered disinfectants and CDC guidelines; remove used disposable materials and prepare rooms with fresh instruments and supplies; restock supplies and ensure all equipment is functional.
  • Waste Management: safely replace sharps containers following OSHA and FDA guidelines; segregate and manage biohazardous waste (including chemo waste) according to regulatory standards, ensuring proper packaging, labeling, and temporary storage for disposal.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 1–3 years of experience.
  • Experience with refill protocols in clinic or hospital setting strongly preferred.
  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants or NCMA certification preferred.
  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
Physical Demands

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Work Environment

Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment may occur.
