Mental Health Technician

Responsibilities

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to patients ranging in age from five years of age through geriatrics, depending on the unit. MHTs work under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

El Paso Behavioral Health System is a private 167‑bed psychiatric hospital located in El Paso, Texas, specializing in mental health and chemical‑dependency care. It offers a wide range of evidence‑based services and programs that result in positive outcomes for patients.

• High School Degree or equivalent;
  Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
• Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, recreational therapy, or an appropriate therapeutic discipline.
• Two (2) years of related experience in psychiatric patient care, with knowledge of psychiatric techniques and an understanding of mental illness, preferred.
• Successful completion of Handle With Care Training within 90 days of employment before assisting with restraining procedures.
• Ability to work overtime, some holidays, and weekends.
• Current CPR Certification.
