Position Description
The Counselor - Student Services serves as the lead clinical professional for student mental health services within the
Office of Student Services & Student Engagement (OSSSE). This position provides advanced clinical counseling
services, campus-wide crisis response, and clinical oversight of the Counseling Center, including supervision and
guidance of counseling staff and trainees. This role ensures the quality, consistency, and compliance of mental health
services delivered to students while supporting institutional priorities related to student well-being, retention, safety, and
belonging. The position requires independent clinical judgment, leadership, and decision-making authority in
accordance with professional and regulatory standards.

Major/Essential Functions
* Provides individual and group counseling services utilizing brief therapy and evidence-informed models to address student mental health, behavioral, and psychosocial concerns.
* Conducts comprehensive clinical assessments, including suicide and risk evaluations, to determine appropriate interventions, safety planning, or referral.
* Provides crisis intervention and emergency response, including on-call responsibilities, for students experiencing acute distress.
* Evaluates treatment effectiveness and modifies clinical approaches as appropriate.
* Provides clinical oversight of the Counseling Center, ensuring services align with professional standards, ethical guidelines, licensure requirements, and institutional policies.
* Serves as a clinical supervisor and consultant to counseling staff, LPC-Associates, interns, and trainees, consistent with licensure credentials.
* Reviews clinical documentation, case management practices, and treatment planning for quality assurance and compliance.
* Assists in developing and refining clinical protocols, workflows, and service delivery models.
* Oversees complex case management, coordinating care with campus partners (e.g., Dean of Students, Academic Affairs, BIT, Disability Services) and external providers.
* Facilitates referrals to community mental health agencies, hospitals, and specialized providers as needed.
* Consults with legal, compliance, and treatment professionals regarding student records, rights, and responsibilities.
* Plays a key role in behavioral intervention, threat assessment, and student safety processes.
* Leads and participates in campus-wide outreach, psycho educational programming, and prevention initiatives focused on mental health, wellness, and belonging.
* Provides training, consultation, and in-service education to faculty, staff, and campus partners related to student mental health and crisis response.
* Represents OSSSE in campus events including orientation, engagement programming, and community partnerships.
* Remain current with all licensure, certifications, and mandatory compliance and training requirements for this position.
* Adhere to all policies, procedures, and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.).
* Personally demonstrate, display and act in accordance with TTUHSC EP's Values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Serve as a Value's leader while actively promoting and encouraging staff across the institution.
