Job Summary
The Registrar Scheduler facilitates patient flow at a clinic by scheduling, registering, and greeting patients. Responsibilities include scheduling patients for consultation, procedures, and/tests as needed, entering patient demographics and insurance information, handling charges, and managing billing. The scheduler verifies insurances via electronic systems or by contacting payers, obtains pre‑certifications or authorizations to meet payer protocols, and manages multiple tasks while maintaining excellent customer service.
Skills- Ability to deal tactfully with staff, patients, visitors, and the public.
- Basic computer literacy and keyboarding skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Knowledge of commercial and managed care payors and terminology.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of frequently changing insurance plan requirements.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and ICD coding preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish required.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and work well under pressure.
- Ability to work in a fast‑pace environment with frequent interruptions.
One year of experience in scheduling or patient access in a hospital or clinic setting is required.
License/Registrations/CertificationsCertified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) is preferred.
Education and TrainingHigh school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate degree is preferred. Training or educational background in medical terminology and ICD coding is preferred.
