Summary

Job Summary Performs Monitor Technician duties and monitors patient's cardiac rhythms under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Performs Health Unit Coordinator duties including medical record maintenance, order processing, typing, and/or word processing, and materials management functions on the nursing unit. Assists visitors, nursing staff, and members of the health care team. Assists in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.

Completes all other work related duties as assigned.

  • Skill in the use of Hospital computer systems related to ADT order entry, requisitions, lab inquiries and other computerized processes and related software/hardware applications.
  • Knowledge of clinical procedures and operations.
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment ordering and inventory control.
  • Clerical, word processing and office skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
  • Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Possesses effective interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Technically competent in tasks within the scope of practice of a nursing assistant and monitor tech.
  • Ability to detect abnormal cardiac monitor tracings for adult and pediatric patients.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Work Experience

Health Unit Coordinator or Monitor Tech. experience in a hospital setting preferred.

License/Registration/Certification
  • Current CPR training required.
  • National Health Unit Coordinator certification preferred.
Education and Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of the UMC dysrhythmia course within 6 months of being in the position required.
  • Completion of the UMC HUC training program within 6 months of being in the position.
