Position Description

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Managed Careis seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) to join ourteam at the TDCJ Sanchez Unit in El Paso, Texas.

The Sanchez Unit serves as a TDCJ intake facility and providesshort-term housing for individuals in minimum custody, creating adynamic clinical environment with diverse medical needs.

About the Role

APPs provide comprehensive primary, chronic, acute, and urgentcare, including evaluation of new intakes, management of acuteand chronic conditions, and coordination of ongoing care. The position offers excellent opportunities to expand clinical andprocedural skills while caring for a medically diverse population.

Providers may encounter a wide range of illnesses, injuries, and complex medical conditions, with opportunities to performprocedures such as suturing, splinting, toenail removal,injections, and more.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Provides patient services under direct supervision and responsibility of Physician and or Medical Director.
  • Elicits detailed patient histories.
  • Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination,and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray,electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets testresults for deviations from normal.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections,immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managinginfection.
  • Develops and implements patient management plans, recordsprogress notes, and assists in provision of continuity ofcare.
  • Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
  • May render emergency medical service without supervision,pending the arrival of a responsible physician, in cases whereimmediate diagnosis and treatment are necessary to avoid disability or death.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant licensein the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas.

Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing theexaminations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants.
OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approvedcertification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing. CurrentR.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or abilityto transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitionerfrom an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Boardof Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.
