Manufacturing Engineer, Production Manager
The Machine Shop Manager is a real hands‑on and a key leader to our machining team, supporting the site’s Focus Factory, customer satisfaction, company financial goals, and fostering a strong cultural environment.
Use of machining best practices, to include processes and technology.
Responsible for overseeing all aspects of the day‑to‑day operations of the manufacturing process in the machining department.
Supervises staff, plans, approves production schedules and manages budgets. Ensures staff meet quality standards while maintaining safety and working conditions. Analyze and optimize processes using continuous improvement strategies on existing and new products that translate to improved efficiency and an increase in production. Also includes areas of maintenance, process design and value stream, ergonomics, capacity, simulation tools, investment, cost analysis and performance.
Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment through regular inspections and training.
- Manage daily operations of precision machining manufacturing that produces components for our assembly manufacturing.
- Supervise and train machinists and operators in the use of CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, and other machining equipment.
- Oversee the setup and operation of various machinery including CNC Mill and CNC Lathe machines, and secondary processes.
- Plan and schedule production to meet deadlines, optimize capacity, and reduce bottlenecks.
- Use ERP System to create, update, and manage job orders, routings, BOMs, and production schedules.
- Review engineering drawings, initiates tool requests, write CNC programs and perform trouble shooting.
- Conduct training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
- Manage staffing levels, timecards, and attendance.
- Conduct quality control inspections using precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
- Supports the transfers of new products and new technologies into the site, supports the site launch, NPI processes for new product and new product transfers and engineering changes to site products. Reviews and supports product cost analysis at launch phase & production readiness phase.
- Manage by performing Gemba walks to observe and ask questions and by being an active listener, then develop improvement/action plans.
- Conducts thorough studies of existing conditions and analyzes needed changes to achieve required manufacturing / sites KPIs.
- Working with Design teams to ensure that proposed designs are within process capabilities and manufacturability, (DFM).
- Implementing process certification.
Implement lean manufacturing practices to optimize workflow and reduce waste. - Develop positive relationships and work collaboratively with all functional managers.
