Job SummaryAt Lucchese, craftsmanship is the foundation of our brand. The Utility operator (Finishing) will support the Finishing department in various roles based on business needs. Such as helping in Naumkeg, Set heels, Heel scour, peg by hand, and edge trim. The Utility operator completes various operations in the department and serves as a potential backup in case of other employee absences.

The utility for the finishing department involves a range of tasks that contribute to the overall quality and efficiency of the manufacturing process and should be familiar with and able to operate various small machines used in the department, and other tools to assist others in completing production goals for the day. As well for working within a team environment, the utility operator must be able to collaborate with other team members to ensure a smooth production process.
This role requires flexibility, technical proficiency across multiple stations, attention to detail, and adherence to production and quality expectations.
- Naumkeg- sanding the bottom of the boot to achieve final finish and maintain the quality and precision of the boot.
- Set Heels- align, attach, and secure the heels to the boot soles using spiralized tools and adhesives. As well as shaping and sanding the heels to achieve the correct height, angle, and smooth finish.
- Heel scour- operating a machine that score the insole of the boot to guild the installation of the heel and indicate where the channel of the insole begins.
- Peg by hand- Hammering wooden pegs into the heel and arch of the boot.
- Edge trim- trimming the edges of the boot to remove excess material and impart a finished appearance.
- Follow all safety guidelines.
- Always keep the working area clean.
- Maintain accuracy and structural integrity standards.
- Minimize rework and material wastes through careful craftsmanship.
- Support team, production flow, and meet departmental efficiency standards.
- Strong visuals to inspect detailed in all workstations.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow production tickets and work orders accurately.
- Working knowledge of Utility techniques and processes.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to meet daily production quotas while maintaining quality standards.
- Willingness to work overtime as production demands require.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
- Minimum of two (2) years or related experience in boot manufacturing.
- Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours per shift).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-driven manufacturing environment.
- Frequent use of hands, wrists, and fingers for repetitive piping motion.
- Ability to maintain focus and precision throughout production tasks.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds as needed.
