Job Summary
Forklift Material Handler loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near the center, cross dock, trailers, yard, or work site.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Read work order or follow oral instructions to determine materials or containers to be moved.
- Receive items for shipment, inspect visually for identity, quantity, and condition, checking for obvious damage and segregating items requiring special handling.
- Open containers as directed by work instructions or supervisor.
- Load and unload materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand or with forklift or other handling equipment.
- Load materials into carrier vehicles and install loading tools to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
- Complete receiving and shipping documents accurately and completely via Pro Trans specifications.
- Perform receiving and shipping activities using a mobile scanner.
- Identify all shipments by proper marking and labeling, including special handling instructions.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
- Conduct safety and equipment checks daily.
- Operate machinery such as banding, taping, and sealing.
- Follow all safety procedures and actively work to improve individual and center safety record.
- Provide ideas or feedback to identify continual improvement initiatives to enhance performance of the position, team, and company.

Education and/or ExperienceHigh School diploma or General Education Development (GED); or six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and write in English is required. Bilingual English/Spanish desired in some centers.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer SkillsAble to use scanning equipment.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsMust pass the Protrans Forklift Performance Test.

Specific vision and hearing abilities required by this job include close, distance, peripheral vision and depth perception, and the ability to hear other forklifts, individuals nearby, and the common noises of the environment at all times.
