ResponsibilitiesUnder general direction, develop, implement, and coordinate projects and programs to promote, support, and integrate community involvement in the Animal Services Department. Typical duties include:
- Plan, develop, and implement strategies and programs to facilitate community involvement in Animal Services programming. Develops and implements policies, procedures, and protocols designed to obtain community input on Animal Services programming and initiatives. Conduct stakeholder assessments, meet with neighborhood residents, leaders, and community groups to identify trends, ideas, and available resources. Facilitate public dialogues and consensus to develop community-driven projects and initiatives.
Assess community concerns, values, and opinions on Animal Services projects, programs, and initiatives. Serve as a liaison to external partners and internal teams to establish events, programs, and resources for the community. Oversee and conduct research through canvassing, focus groups, surveys, and other means to assess community needs and evaluate the effectiveness of programs. Research community demographics, trends, and underserved areas to form outreach strategies and expand the department’s impact.
Manage humane education, community outreach, and pet support programs. - Develop, execute, and evaluate the effectiveness of Animal Services programming, including facilitating partnerships, collaborations with jurisdictions, business, civic groups, and other stakeholders to integrate animal welfare initiatives. Identify opportunities to solicit and negotiate new, relocated, or expanded program operations. Develop and implement outreach strategies to increase awareness and engagement. Advocate for local events, services, and facilities by arranging and hosting or participating in related outreach activities.
Oversee the development of humane education curricula for classrooms, camps, workshops, and trainings. Prepare regular reports on program performance and progress. - Manage humane education and outreach programs for children and adults, developing curricula and maintaining a schedule of presentations, events, and activities. Build relationships with district and community stakeholders to disseminate educational material and department information.
- Consult with communications staff to develop and implement public information training materials, bulletins, and presentations. Inform City officials of community events and issues through reports, conferences, and community meetings. Organize forums, walking tours, conferences, and other community events and meetings.
- Assist in the management, staging, and execution of EPAS events, including site logistics, coordinating adoptable animals, vendors, activities, and entertainment. Develop and maintain relationships with venue personnel and City departments. Represent EPAS at City Council meetings, boards and commissions, and community events as required.
- Perform administrative duties, evaluating program activities and recommending changes. Conduct market research to determine needs and evaluate project effectiveness. Coordinate volunteers for education and outreach initiatives. Prepare, monitor, submit, and justify the education, outreach, and pet support budgets. Assist in conducting media interviews and promoting department activities and events.
- Supervise assigned staff, including scheduling, instruction, performance appraisals, training, enforcing rules, counseling, hiring/terminations, and other personnel actions.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Business or Public Administration, Public Relations, Communications, Liberal Arts, or a closely related field, and five (5) years of experience involving the development and coordination of public information or community outreach or involvement programs.
