TXR Campus Organizer

The Texas Freedom Network (TFN) seeks a part-time Campus Organizer for its Texas Rising program based in El Paso, Texas. Texas Rising is a project of the Texas Freedom Network that is building an informed and effective movement of young Texans working toward equality and social justice across the state of Texas.

The Campus Organizer will work in El Paso, Texas on our youth engagement program, Texas Rising. They will work to build power on their campus and in their community by organizing to increase voter participation. This is a part-time position working an average of 20-25 hours per week. The CO will report directly to the Statewide Program Manager and assist the Regional Program Coordinator in their region.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Attend a day-long training, plus additional one-on-one training with the Regional Program Coordinator to learn about Texas Rising and your role
  • Maintain regular communication with the Regional Program Coordinator
  • Take lead on issue-advocacy projects on campuses
  • Help build student base on Texas Rising chapters in the region
  • Occasional administrative tasks and data entry

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Ability to work well with a team, take direction and feedback, and share skills and knowledge
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision; self-motivated
  • Ability to work around 4-6 hours a day for 4-5 days a week
  • Must be willing to get deputized to register voters
  • Must have access to a laptop, smartphone, and reliable transportation
  • Previous experience in canvassing or other civic engagement campaigns
  • Previous experience in issue advocacy
  • Bilingual, English and Spanish, preferred but not required
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, experience meeting deadlines, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Must be passionate for LGBTQ equality, reproductive justice, criminal justice reform, immigration reform, and voting rights
  • Preference will be given to candidates that are currently enrolled in a college or university of this region.

Benefits:

  • $21 per hour
  • Paid sick time
  • $115/mo internet and phone stipend
