Job DescriptionThis position is contingent on contract award.
The Nurse Manager is responsible for supervising nursing staff and overseeing nursing operations to support safe, timely, and contract-compliant health care services for patients in custody. The role ensures delivery of nursing care consistent with applicable health services requirements, supports intake and ongoing care processes, maintains nursing readiness for emergency response, coordinates continuity of care for transfers and off-site services, and promotes staff training, accountability, documentation quality, and adherence to privacy, safety, and credentialing requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct supervision, scheduling, assignment, and day-to-day oversight of nursing staff and nursing services.
- Plan, assign, and evaluate nursing care to support intake screening, sick call, chronic care, urgent care, emergency response, and continuity of care.
- Ensure on-site nursing services support required arrival screening, health assessments, daily triage of health care requests, medication administration, and follow-up care within required time frames.
- Coordinate nursing care with physicians, advanced practice providers, behavioral health personnel, dental staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary health care team.
- Ensure prompt recognition, escalation, and response to medical emergencies, including initial stabilization, emergency transfer coordination, and required notifications.
- Support safe and secure transfer of patients for hospital, specialty, and other off-site services, including continuity of care documentation and required medical transfer information.
- Monitor nursing documentation, medical record completeness, and use of the electronic health record to support accurate, timely, and confidential patient care documentation.
- Ensure nursing practices comply with applicable licensure requirements, credentialing requirements, privacy requirements, infection prevention requirements, and evidence-based standards of care.
- Support quality assurance, risk management, corrective action, audits, inspections, and internal compliance monitoring related to nursing and health services operations.
- Lead orientation, in-service education, and recurring training for nursing staff, including emergency response, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, automated external defibrillator use, emergency first aid, signs of health emergencies, signs of mental illness and suicide risk, and procedures for obtaining emergency medical assistance.
- Support staffing readiness by maintaining supervision, verifying performance expectations, identifying training needs, and escalating staffing or competency gaps that may affect safe operations.
- Coordinate with designated points of contact on referrals, off-site appointments, hospitalizations, medications, and continuity-of-care requirements for transfer, release, or removal.
- Participate in reviews of protocols, workflows, and nursing operations to identify improvement opportunities and support efficient, safe, and contract-compliant patient care.
- Maintain professional communication and effective working relationships in a multidisciplinary, multicultural, and multilingual environment, using professional interpretation services when needed to support patient communication.
