Double Weekend Medication Aide (Certified Medication Aide required).

Purpose of the Position The primary purpose of this role is to assist in the administration of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, nurse supervisor, charge nurse, or Director of Nursing Services, in accordance with established nursing standards and facility policies.

Responsibilities
  • Follow facility policies and procedures for medication administration and documentation.
  • Note, report, and help investigate medication errors, and assist in developing procedures to prevent errors.
  • Complete administrative requirements, forms, charts, and reports as needed.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with nursing staff, physicians, pharmacists, and other team members.
  • Participate in facility surveys, quality assurance programs, and pharmacy committees.
  • Attend care‑plan meetings and assist in resident assessments.
  • Accurately prepare, administer, and document oral and topical medications, verifying resident identity and compliance.
  • Verify medications brought by newly admitted residents and ensure proper labeling.
  • Assist with medication charting, recording orders, and handling drug receipt errors.
  • Record vital signs and observe medication administration, documenting any refusals or non‑administered doses.
  • Notify charge nurse or Director of Nursing Services of medication errors or resident reactions.
  • Support self‑administration of medications by residents, monitoring compliance.
  • Follow drug storage, disposal, and safety guidelines; use PPE when required.
  • Report hazardous conditions, occupational exposures, and incidents of fraud or unauthorized disclosure.
  • Maintain secure computer workstations and firewalls.
  • Participate in continuing education, in‑service training, and orientation programs.
  • Wash hands before and after assisting with resident services.
  • Assist in the discharge and transfer of medications, including handling of discontinued drugs.
  • Ensure all administered medications are supported by written, signed orders.
  • Assist in medication receipt error documentation and return of medications when appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Must be a licensed Certified Medication Aide with a current state‑approved certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • State approved training program completion and any required examinations.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills appropriate for the age‑related needs of residents.
  • Strong teamwork, independent decision‑making, and the ability to handle difficult residents and staff.
  • Patience, tact, cheerfulness, and willingness to assist residents with emotional or behavioral challenges.
  • Ability to relocate, navigate, and move throughout the facility, including drug rooms, nursing stations, and resident rooms.
  • Physical ability to move intermittently during the workday, lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet, and carry the same weight a distance of 50 feet.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of resident care information and comply with HIPAA and facility privacy policies.
  • Willingness to participate in all required training, including OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, Safety, and Infection Control.

  • Free Hepatitis B vaccination provided by the facility.
  • Employment is at‑will; termination may occur with or without notice.
  • Position requires work on weekends (double weekend schedule) and may require overtime or participation in special events.
