Overview

Description

Supervises and coordinates unit operations/activities on a specific shift to ensure quality patient care and optimal operational efficiency that ensures continuity of care. Maintains authority for resource allocation. Assists Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator in the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing staff. Supervises the work of RNs, and non-licensed members of the nursing staff.

Qualifications

Work Experience

  • One or more years of hospital based acute care experience.

License/Registration/Certification

  • CPR Training Program for licensed nurses working with adult and pediatric patient populations.
  • CPR training not required for licensed nurses working in Specialty Care Nurseries.
  • NRP required for licensed nurses working in Specialty Care Nurseries.
  • Current RN License to practice in the State of Texas

RN PRN candidates, whether internal or external candidates, must have certifications noted in the table below by department at the start of assignment/employment.

Education and Training

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Meets unit-specific education requirements.

Skills

  • Possesses critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Possesses effective interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Ability to utilize computers for documentation purposes.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
