The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, medication management, and ongoing treatment services for children, adolescents, and adults experiencing emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges. The PMHNP works collaboratively with therapists, care coordinators, other center staff members, and community partners to support comprehensive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, follow-up care, and medication management services for clients ages 3 and over.
- Diagnose mental health disorders in accordance with DSM-5 criteria.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Prescribe, monitor, and manage psychotropic medications.
- Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment options, and symptom management.
- Monitor treatment outcomes and make recommendations for changes in care as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation within the electronic health record.
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and case consultations.
- Identify and respond appropriately to psychiatric crises and safety concerns.
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and agency regulations related to behavioral health services.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and organizational goals.
- Collaborate with therapists, care coordinators, school personnel, physicians, and other treatment team members as needed.
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Texas.
- Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
- Current DEA registration and Texas prescriptive authority.
- Experience working with children and adolescents in mental health settings.
- Knowledge of psychiatric medications and evidence-based treatment approaches for pediatric populations.
- Strong assessment, communication, and clinical decision-making skills.
