Job Description :
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UTEP invites applications for a faculty position in Organic Chemistry at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain an innovative, externally funded research program in organic chemistry, contribute to interdisciplinary research collaborations, and mentor and train undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. students. The faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in organic chemistry and participate in service activities that support the missions of the department, college, and university.
Candidates with expertise in any area of organic chemistry are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates whose research programs involve hands‑on experimental studies in organic chemistry. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, synthetic organic chemistry, mechanistic organic chemistry, chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, catalysis, organometallic chemistry, materials chemistry, and related areas. The successful candidate will contribute to UTEP's mission through excellence in research, education, student success, and community engagement.


Job Requirements


Required Qualifications :

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field.
  • Postdoctoral research experience or equivalent in organic chemistry or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated research productivity in organic chemistry, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Research program involving hands‑on experimental studies in organic chemistry.
  • Research interests that complement and expand existing departmental strengths in organic chemistry.
  • Research program that leverages and enhances the Department's shared instrumentation and core facilities, including NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, X‑ray crystallography, and related research infrastructure.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary research collaborations within chemistry and related STEM disciplines.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate student researchers.
