Supervises the day-to-day operational and personnel activities of the Engineering Department, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance functions. Schedules and inspects the work of technicians, coordinates departmental preventive maintenance and repair projects, and ensures maximum efficiency of hospital facilities. Selects, trains, and evaluates staff while assisting in operational and budgetary planning.

Work Experience

Four years of experience in HVAC, medical gas, general maintenance, and electrical preferably in a hospital setting.

One year of lead / supervisory experience required.

License/Registration/Certification

Medical Gas Maintenance Personnel (ASSE 6040) required.

EPA Universal License required.

ASSE 12080 required or completed within two years of being in the position.

Education and Training

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Completion of approved and accredited trade school or trade apprenticeship program required.

Associates degree in HVAC, Industrial, Electrical or related field preferred.

Skills
  • Working knowledge of general building maintenance, construction, installation, operational testing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and medical gas systems, including repairs and preventive maintenance, with knowledge of local code, NFPA, and state requirements and specifications.
  • Considerable knowledge of materials, tools, and techniques used in building, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and medical gas maintenance and repair.
  • Extensive knowledge of hazards and safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, NFPA, ADA, and other applicable regulatory requirements and specifications.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret schematics, technical manuals, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to confer effectively with staff, vendors, and contractors to determine specific equipment or system requirements.
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers, with the ability to learn and apply software applications such as spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and email systems.
