This is a temporary position working on a project that will last from 6 - 9 months in the El Paso area, with potential for longer-term employment opportunity. There are multiple positions available. Technology Cable Installer Wage/Hour Status:

Reports to:

VP of Operations

Primary Purpose

Install various low voltage and fiber optic cable, twisted pair, CAT6, CAT5, and coax, risers and tie cables, including termination, testing, labeling and documentation.

Qualifications
  • Education/Certification:
    • High School Diploma/GED
    • Valid Driver’s License
  • Special Knowledge/

    Skills:
    • Ability to read blue prints
    • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
    • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure environment
    • Excellent customer service and problem solving skills
    • Ability to interact with other employees, vendors and clients.
  • Experience:
    • Two (2) years related experience in commercial cabling installations including CAT5e, CAT6/A
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Installs cable pathways systems and backbone distribution systems.
  • Builds telecommunication and equipment rooms.
  • Installs fire stopping cable penetrations.
  • Grounds and bonds systems.
  • Tests, troubleshoots and prepares documentation for cabling systems.
  • Installs and troubleshoots basic fiber optic structured cable distribution systems.
  • Terminates, assembles and installs optical fiber LC and/or SC ceramic connectors.
  • Diagnoses and corrects basic optical fiber problems.
  • Performs basic site surveys under the guidance of the lead technician.
  • Equipment Used
    • Tablet/laptop and mobile devices
    • Basic hand tools, ladders, drills

    Job Requirements
    • Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions.
    • Prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions.
    • Climbing, stooping, bending, pushing and kneeling; occasional heavy lifting; frequent use of small hand tools and electronic test equipment; frequent Districtwide travel.
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more.
