Summary
Perform daily activities of roofing maintenance operation to ensure district roofs are structurally sound, and meet specifications in accordance with city/state/federal codes and regulations. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as, district policies procedures and regulations.
Essential Functions- Follow safety guidelines in the repairs of roofs.
- Participate in the preventive maintenance and repair procedures for roofs.
- Receive, prioritize, and complete work orders. Allow time for emergency situations as needed.
- Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates. Maintain accurate records on material labor used utilizing district automated work order system.
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment. Ensure that equipment is in safe operation condition.
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
- Follow the assigned supervisor’s direction as required.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
- Adapt to work shift schedule and/or hours other than regularly assigned.
- Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material.
- Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.
- Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.
- Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals.
- Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED); one (1) year experience in roofing. Knowledge of repairs on all types of roofing maintenance, installation techniques, roofing codes; able to interact and effectively communicate with district employees and public; ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material; perform mathematical calculations; diagnose and resolve problems; use hand and power tools.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Valid Texas/New Mexico driver’s license; subject to the district’s drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation; must be insurable by the district’s auto liability insurance carrier.
Maintain emotional control under stress; must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to fifty (50) pounds frequently; work under all weather conditions; be adaptable to work a shift schedule and/or hours other than regularly assigned; extended periods of walking, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping, climbing; heavy lifting and carrying. Ability to climb ladders up to 8 feet unassisted and higher with assistance;
exposure to insects; ability to work with pesticides and herbicides or other potentially hazardous materials in a safe manner. May need to work on roof tops or other height areas above the ground. Be adaptable to work a shift schedule or hours other than regularly assigned.
