PositionDescription
Laborers have general responsibility to provide support and assistance to the other skilled crafts working on the project. Laborers provide support for the form carpenters and for the concrete operation in general, ironworkers/rodbusters involved in installing reinforcing steel, and masons involved in the installation of block and brickwork. This is a safety sensitive position.
Responsibilities- Provide support for the form carpenters and concrete operation.
- Assist ironworkers/rodbusters in installing reinforcing steel.
- Assist masons in the installation of block and brickwork.
- Lift form prefabricated metal form panels and assist in their placement.
- Handle the concrete bucket suspended from a crane for concrete transfer, muck the concrete in slabs after pouring.
- Assist in stripping concrete forms after curing, transport for storage.
- Assist concrete finishers in moving power trowels and power screeds used to finish the concrete surface.
- Support block masons by handling and transporting bags of cement, lime, sand, and grout.
- Assist carpenters in handling and setting door frames.
- Load, unload, identify building materials, machinery, and tools; distribute site materials to appropriate locations.
- Promote a safe work environment, communicate hazards, secure the jobsite at end of business day.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Follow safe work practices in accordance with the Hensel Phelps safety and health program.
- Ability to take initiative.
- Strong attention to detail and follow instructions.
- Provide own safety footwear.
- Effective and professional communication with co‑workers and stakeholders.
- Strong mathematical reasoning and quantitative skills.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Experience in construction layout, blueprint reading and shop drawing reading is preferred.
- Experience with concrete preparation and finishing tasks.
- Heavy work: exert up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, 20 lbs constantly.
- Required movements: walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, finger/type.
- Work frequently involves moving about the jobsite and operating office machinery.
- Requires communication with employees and external stakeholders.
- Must read and understand blueprints, load charts, field measurements.
- Climbing and working from heights for extended periods.
- Balance, stooping, reaching, grasping, operating vehicles as required.
- Exposure to high/low temperatures, noisy environment, precipitation, wind.
- Use of hands and wrists with various tools, including jackhammer and pavement breaker.
- Tolerate exposure to dusts and chemicals; must pass medical and fit testing for respirator use.
- Must hear commands from supervisors and safety alarms.
