General PurposeUnder general supervision, promote water conservation by assessing landscape and irrigation systems, providing recommendations to customers, and conducting educational workshops for homeowners, business owners, government entities, and other stakeholders to encourage water‑smart landscapes.
Typical Duties- Plan, schedule, and perform irrigation audits for commercial customers on existing systems; contact customers, prepare consumption charts, interview property owners, and read and prepare diagrams or site plans.
- Locate irrigation valves, read and modify controller schedules, and perform other operations; open valve boxes to verify compliance and function, test valve operation and distribution functions, and locate damaged or malfunctioning equipment.
- Prepare water budgets based on existing or proposed vegetation and develop appropriate watering schedules based on soil, plant type, and evapotranspiration.
- Prepare reports for customers and recommend modifications for maximum water savings; maintain records of completed audits.
- Develop, schedule, and deliver landscape and irrigation trainings in person and/or virtually to customers, landscape professionals, and others to demonstrate water‑saving practices.
- Coordinate with other conservation technicians in performing audits and related projects; assist with reviewing Water Conservation Plans received with new meter applications and with the Water Conservation Manager.
- Inspect new irrigation system installations for commercial, institutional, and industrial water customers and follow up with customers to recommend appropriate watering schedules and maintenance practices.
- Perform maintenance and repair work at the TecH2O Center, including weekly irrigation inspections, minor repair work on emitters, tubing, and valves, tool maintenance, and procurement of irrigation parts.
- Respond to customer inquiries by answering phones, greeting customers, and providing accurate information.
- Perform related duties as required and provide support to coworkers as necessary to ensure continuity of operations during absences.
- Education:
High School Diploma or GED, or higher. - Experience:
at least three (3) years of landscape and irrigation system maintenance, or design and installation experience. - Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by date of appointment.
- Texas "Landscape Irrigator License" required at time of application.
- Must obtain Water Sense Irrigation Auditor certification within six (6) months of hire.
