Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED, or higher and three (3) years of landscape and irrigation system maintenance, or design and installation experience.

Licenses and Certificates:
Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by date of appointment. Texas "Landscape Irrigator" License is required at the time of application. Must obtain Water Sense Irrigation Auditor certification within six (6) months of hire.

General Purpose

Under general supervision, promotes water conservation to extend the city’s water supply by assessing landscape and irrigation systems, providing landscape and irrigation recommendations to customers, and providing educational workshops for homeowners, business owners, government entities, and others to promote water‑smart landscapes.

Typical Duties / Responsibilities

Plan, schedule, and perform irrigation audits for commercial customers on existing systems. Involves contacting customers; preparing consumption charts; interviewing property owners; reading and preparing diagrams or site plans; locating irrigation valves; reading and modifying irrigation controller schedules; opening valve boxes to verify compliance and function; testing valve operation and distribution functions; locating damaged or malfunctioning equipment; preparing water budgets based on existing or proposed vegetation;

preparing appropriate watering schedules based on soil, plant type, and evapotranspiration; preparing reports for customers and recommending modifications for maximum water savings; maintaining records of completed audits; developing, scheduling, and delivering landscape and irrigation trainings in person and/or virtually to customers, landscape professionals, and others to demonstrate water‑saving landscape and irrigation practices.

Coordinate with other conservation technicians in performing irrigation audits and related projects. Involves assisting with reviewing Water Conservation Plans received with new meter applications, in consultation with the Water Conservation Manager; inspecting new irrigation system installations for commercial, institutional, and industrial water customers; following up with customers to recommend appropriate watering schedules and maintenance practices.

Perform maintenance and repair work at the TecH2O Center. Involves weekly irrigation inspection; minor repair work on emitters, tubing, and valves; tool maintenance; irrigation parts requisition; performing related duties as required; performing duties of coworkers as necessary to ensure continuity of operations during absences; interacting positively with supervisors, contractors, vendors, and coworkers; answering phones; greeting customers; answering customer questions; and providing accurate information to inquiries.
