Position Description

Safely performs journeyman level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions

* Monitor and adjust set points and operating parameters of water treatment systems to optimize the performance of mechanical systems and equipment under the guidance of mechanical tradesman leader and foreman.

* Performs maintenance, operation and repair work on mechanical systems and equipment (HVAC, boilers, controls, valves, VFD's, etc.).

* Updates, maintains and coordinates information and schematic drawings pertaining to the facilities mechanical systems.

* Prepares and submits work documentation; to include work order submission, changes made to mechanical system (e.g.controls), etc. Prepares documentation and updates in the WebTMA.

* Prepares and submits work documentation; to include work order submission, changes made to mechanical system (e.g. controls), etc. Supervises documentation prepared by assigned personnel on water treatment.

* Works with other trades and maintenance staff to complete maintenance and installation activities of building systems.

* Responds to and corrects, environmental calls such as temperature complaints/problems, and performs on-call duties as required.

* Troubleshoot airflow, temperature control, humidity control, and pressurization issues.

* Performs preventive maintenance functions on assigned HVAC systems and equipment.

* Maintains and supports as needed the mechanical systems performed by 24/7 operators. May cover 24l/7 shifts if required.

* Follow safety procedures including lockout/tagout and infection control requirements.

* Must have and maintain valid State of Texas Driver's License and be listed as an approved driver as determined by Risk Management and insurance carrier. Must be able to pass the employee Criminal Background Check.

* Assist senior technicians with equipment repairs and system diagnostics.

* Support troubleshooting of air handling units, split systems, exhaust systems, and building automation controls.

* Remain current with all licensures, certifications, and mandatory compliance and training requirements for this position.

* Adhere to all policies, procedures, and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSCEP OPs, etc.).

* Personally demonstrate, display and act in accordance with TTUHSC EP's Values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Serve as a Value's leader while actively promoting and encouraging staff across the institution.

* In accordance with Texas Executive Order GA-48 and applicable state or federal law, this position may involve access to, work on, or conducting research involving critical infrastructure as defined by Texas Business & Commerce Code §117.001(2) (formerly Texas Business & Commerce Code § 113.001(2)). Preferred Qualifications

* Completion of a technical or vocational HVAC training program.

* Experience working in commercial or institutional facilities.

* Basic familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS).

* Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs.

* EPA Section 608 Universal Certification preferred at hire.

* Experience working in healthcare, laboratory, or research environments.
