The Electrician is a full‑time, on‑site role based at The University of Texas at El Paso in El Paso, TX. This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment across campus facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, offices, and common areas. Day‑to‑day tasks include diagnosing electrical issues, performing preventative maintenance, replacing and upgrading fixtures and wiring, and ensuring systems operate safely and efficiently.
The Electrician will interpret electrical plans and schematics, collaborate with facilities staff and contractors, and follow all relevant codes, standards, and university safety guidelines. The role may also involve participation in emergency response to electrical failures and occasional work outside standard hours to support critical campus operations.
- Strong knowledge of electricity and electrical engineering principles, including safe handling of electrical systems and components.
- Demonstrated experience in electrical work, including installation, wiring, and system upgrades in commercial or institutional settings.
- Proficiency in maintenance and repair of electrical equipment, fixtures, and building systems.
- Skilled in troubleshooting electrical issues, diagnosing faults, and implementing effective corrective actions.
- Relevant professional certifications or licensure as an electrician in Texas (or ability to obtain), and familiarity with NEC and local codes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications, and to use common electrical tools and testing instruments.
- Commitment to safety, with knowledge of OSHA and campus safety practices, and the ability to work at heights or in confined spaces as needed.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work respectfully within a diverse university community.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited electrician apprenticeship or technical program preferred.
