Education and Experience
High School diploma or GED, or higher, and at least three years of experience in heating, air conditioning, building trades, or operations and maintenance of a water or wastewater plant.
Licenses and Certificates- Some positions require a Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or an equivalent from another state.
- Some positions require Refrigerant Transition & Recovery certification, and/or appropriate EPA and State of Texas certifications within six months of employment.
- Under general supervision, supervise, coordinate, oversee, lead, and guide repair, maintenance, installation and related services involving HVAC, ventilation, pumps, and other mechanical operating systems.
- Supervise and oversee repair, maintenance, and installation of systems within the specific area of assignment.
- Receive, assess, and prioritize work assignments; assign, review, and monitor activities; coordinate scheduling with other trades, vendors, contractors, and departments.
- Review, assess, and inspect work; identify and recommend changes and improvements; maintain files, records, reports, and logs.
- Perform hands‑on maintenance tasks using standard and specialized tools: change filters, balance air or water flow, maintain pumps, repair or replace valves, pipes, motors, and other components; maintain bar screens, industrial compressors, blowers, oxygen production units, clarifier units, digesters, sludge drums, chain sprockets, grit collectors, and other treatment units.
- Troubleshoot and perform preventive or emergency repairs of commercial and industrial motor controls, pneumatic controls, plumbing, and other items; identify ongoing or emergency issues; undertake and recommend necessary repair or maintenance.
- Function as a lead worker: assign and delegate work, review, inspect, and accept completed work; train and develop employees; prepare performance appraisals; handle emergencies; resolve complaints; recommend disciplinary action, vacation time, and merit pay approvals.
- Perform related duties to ensure continuity of operations: interact with federal, state, and local officials, supervisors, contractors, other departments, coworkers, and the general public; answer questions and resolve problems.
- At least three years of experience in heating, air conditioning, building trades, or water/wastewater plant operations.
- Valid driving license and any required certifications (e.g., Refrigerant Transition & Recovery, EPA/State of Texas certifications).
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills; ability to train and develop staff.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical systems, pumps, valves, motors, and related equipment.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
