Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or GED or higher, and one year of mechanical maintenance experience (or twelve semester hours from an accredited college plus six months of maintenance experience; or completed the EPW Utility Plant Operator Trainee Program with a Class "D" Water or Wastewater Operator's License).
Licenses and

Certifications:

Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License (or equivalent), Class "D" Water or Wastewater Operator's License issued by the State of Texas within six months of appointment, replaced by higher-level license within 30 months. May require CDL Class "C", "B", or "A" with HAZMAT endorsement or equivalent within 12 months.
Special Requirements:
Positions requiring a CDL or safety-sensitive nature subject to drug and alcohol testing per federal regulations.

Responsibilities

Assist in operation, maintenance, and repair of water or wastewater treatment systems and equipment under general supervision.

Monitor and control water or wastewater treatment processes via SCADA system, including carbonation, fluoridation, chlorination, etc.

Perform analytical tests, laboratory sampling, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.

Calibrate laboratory equipment and adjust chemical additives according to established guidelines.

Operate pumps, valves, and other processing equipment; read meters and gauges, and adjust controls.

Assist in installation, preventive maintenance, and repair of treatment systems and mechanical equipment (pumps, motors, aeration systems, generators, feeders, etc.).

Perform minor electrical or mechanical repairs, basic welding, plumbing tasks, installing valves and meters, and fire sprinkler installation.

Clean and flush sludge lines, replace filters, lubricate plant equipment, and conduct other preventive maintenance activities.

Record shift activity and sampling results using computer databases.

May perform groundskeeping, building maintenance, general labor, and housekeeping duties as needed.

Perform any other duties assigned to support plant operations.
