Position Overview
Assist in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water or wastewater treatment systems and equipment.
Responsibilities- Monitor and control water or wastewater treatment processes using SCADA and other monitoring systems.
- Perform analytical tests, sample collection, and record results in compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Calibrate laboratory equipment and adjust chemical additives according to established guidelines.
- Operate pumps, valves, and other equipment to manage water flow and treatment.
- Inspect machinery and electrical components for proper operation, detect faulty parts, and perform minor repairs including basic welding and plumbing tasks.
- Lubricate equipment, clean sludge lines, and replace filters to maintain equipment performance.
- Assist in the installation, preventative maintenance, and repair of treatment systems and complex equipment such as aeration systems, chlorinators, and chemical feeders.
- Read and interpret meters and gauges to ensure plant equipment operates within specified ranges.
- Adjust controls, troubleshoot alarms, and ensure operation complies with permits and regulations.
- Perform general labor and housekeeping duties as required and other tasks assigned by supervisors.
- High school diploma or GED or higher and at least one year of mechanical maintenance experience, or
- Twelve (12) semester hours of credit in any field from an accredited college/university and at least six months of maintenance experience, or
- Completion of the El Paso Water (EPW) Utility Plant Operator Trainee Program and possession of a Class “D” Water or Wastewater Operator’s License issued by the State of Texas.
- Valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent from another state, at time of appointment.
- Class “D” Water or Wastewater Operator’s License issued by Texas within six months of appointment.
- Replacement of Class “D” with a higher-level Water or Wastewater Operator’s License within thirty (30) months of hire.
- If required, a Class “C”, “B”, or “A” CDL with or without HAZMAT endorsement within twelve (12) months of appointment.
- Positions requiring a CDL or safety‑sensitive duties are subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations.
