Role Description The Fire and Security Service Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in El Paso, TX. This position is responsible for installing, inspecting, testing, maintaining, and repairing fire alarm, life safety, and electronic security systems, including surveillance and access control equipment. Day-to-day tasks include diagnosing system issues, performing scheduled service and preventive maintenance, completing service reports, and ensuring all work meets applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements.
The technician will interact with clients on-site to explain system functionality, provide training on proper use, and recommend improvements or upgrades. The role also involves coordinating with the service team, following safety protocols, and supporting after-hours service needs as required.
Qualifications
- Ability to install, service, and troubleshoot fire alarm, life safety, surveillance, and access control systems, including panels, devices, and related hardware.
- Skills in reading and interpreting technical documentation such as wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and manufacturer manuals.
- Competence with hand tools, power tools, test equipment, and basic electrical/electronic measurement techniques.
- Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients and team members on-site.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills for accurate documentation, service reporting, and time management.
- Understanding of relevant codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, local fire and building codes) and commitment to workplace safety practices.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; ability to travel locally to customer sites as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications in fire alarm, security systems, or electronics are preferred.
- Prior experience in fire protection, security systems, low-voltage, or related fields is highly beneficial.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting equipment, working on ladders, and operating in various indoor and outdoor environments.
