DEPARTMENT: Distribution Construction & Maintenance
STARTING SALARY: $51.28/hr.
JOB SUMMARY
PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the Supervisor – Distribution Crew performs journey-level tasks in constructing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing underground and/or overhead transmission and distribution lines.
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or equivalency; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
EXPERIENCE:
- Successful completion of the Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship Training Program or other equivalent lineman training program.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of electric transmission and distribution construction, materials, standards, circuits and related equipment.
- Ability to acquire certification from Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). six months of hire date.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be in compliance as defined by the El Paso Electric Company's Driving Policy.
- Available to work shift, overtime and/or irregular hours.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Constructs, maintains, relocates, diagnoses problems and repairs transmission and distribution lines (overhead and underground) and power transformers. Installs, removes or changes equipment such as, but not limited to, poles, guy wires, crossarms, transformers and associated devices, sectionalizing switches, capacitors and street lighting.
- Climbs poles and structures and works from aerial devices at various heights.
- Works on wooden poles with weight supported by body belt, safety strap and pole climbers to position large transformers on poles; lifts heavy materials/hardware and attaches equipment to poles.
- Acts, as required, as lead lineman, directing the work of the crew.
- Complies with all applicable Company policies, procedures and code of ethics as well as all applicable governmental laws and regulations to include employment, safety and environmental standards and regulations.
