Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field, and two (2) years of full-time experience in either casework or counseling with good interviewing skills. Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certificates and Licenses RequiredMust have or obtain by date of hire a valid driver’s license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso. In order to access the County’s network and systems, a personal mobile smart device is required by the hire start date.
Essential Duties- Works 24/7 rotating shifts as scheduled, including days, swings, and graves; works holidays and weekends as assigned.
- Conducts pre-release interviews, criminal histories, risk assessments, and indigence eligibility assessments for qualified defendants.
- Interviews individuals and collects information from collateral sources to determine eligibility; completes interview forms and documents; enters information into the county databases; evaluates client eligibility for services; makes appropriate referrals; completes all necessary paperwork, interviews, and forwards them for consideration and implementation; notifies appropriate stakeholders of status.
- Analyzes records; completes missing data; updates reports; completes detailed criminal history information and summarizes information for reports.
- Conducts technical document analysis under strict time frames and completes accurate and thorough reports for the courts and relevant attorneys.
- Performs complex research with attention to detail in order to analyze and provide solutions for problems.
- Writes, types, or enters information into computers to prepare compilations of data, reports; correspondence, or other documents.
- Types, scans, enters records, proofreads and processes a variety of documents including general correspondence, reports, memos and statistical charts from rough draft or verbal instruction; may compose routine correspondence.
- Maintains case files and records, ensures they are current, accurate and complete prior to a scheduled date; serves as a department representative to coordinate or confer with government officials or community groups on behalf of the client.
- Performs various clerical duties on a computer which may include data entry and processing; enters data regarding eligibility status of clients.
- Verifies data collected from individuals as part of determining eligibility and recommendations.
- As assigned: post‑release, may supervise those who are released with conditions of release on their bond; coordinates services, monitors compliance with court orders, and recommends additional court action as necessary.
- Verifies compliance for mental health conditions, including making phone calls to various doctors or entities, confirming that defendants are complying with conditions.
- Reviews daily jail population report to determine inmates who may qualify for release on personal bond; identifies, screens, interviews and verifies information provided by defendants and processes defendants for release; prepares bond release forms for approval by the courts.
- Analyzes the jail population, conducting daily reports, data entry and other related duties as assigned.
- Conducts other data entry and analysis as assigned.
- Coordinates with other departments or agencies to ensure assessment is successfully completed and documentation is properly managed.
- Conducts screening of defendants for mental health and issues referrals to sister agencies.
- Conducts risk and needs analysis and conducts various assessments and/or provides drug and alcohol screening.
- May make home visits of persons under supervision on unscheduled basis or when necessary.
- Coordinates clients’ participation in rehabilitative efforts and provides follow‑up.
- Collects urine samples from clients and administers breathalyzer tests, as necessary, in accordance with established department guidelines, and monitors electronic equipment of defendants.
- Works closely with the Mexican Consulate in releasing Mexican nationals from the Detention Facility.
