The Lifeguard Shift Manager is responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons within The Elmont Swim Club while serving as the on-duty leader for the lifeguard team during assigned shifts. This role combines active lifeguarding with supervisory oversight, including monitoring swimming areas, enforcing facility rules, coordinating emergency response efforts, supervising lifeguard rotations, and maintaining a high standard of guest service.

The Lifeguard Shift Manager ensures all safety procedures, emergency action plans, and operational standards are followed while maintaining a professional and visible leadership presence on the pool deck.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitor Pool Area:
    Continuously observe swimmers to ensure their safety, responding swiftly to any potential risks or emergencies. Maintain proper zone coverage at all times.
  • Emergency Response Leadership:
    Perform water rescues and administer first aid and CPR when necessary. Lead emergency response situations and ensure proper implementation of the Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
  • Supervise Lifeguard Team:
    Oversee lifeguards during assigned shifts, assign rotations and break schedules, and ensure team attentiveness and compliance with safety standards.
  • Enforce Rules & Regulations:
    Educate and enforce pool rules and facility regulations to prevent accidents and maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all guests.
  • Guest Service & Conflict Resolution:
    Provide exceptional customer service by answering questions, assisting patrons, and resolving concerns professionally. Escalate significant guest issues to management when necessary.
  • Safety & Facility Oversight:
    Ensure the pool deck is clear of debris, confirm safety equipment is accessible and functional, and report any maintenance needs including equipment concerns or water quality issues.
  • Incident Documentation:
    Complete accurate incident reports, daily safety logs, and shift documentation as required.
  • Training &

    Coaching:

    Assist in training new lifeguards and provide ongoing coaching to team members to maintain high performance and safety awareness.
  • Weather & Capacity Monitoring:
    Monitor weather conditions and implement lightning or severe weather procedures. Ensure capacity limits are maintained according to policy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to supervise and motivate a team.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and high-volume event days as required.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification (or equivalent) including CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
  • Minimum one (1) year lifeguard experience preferred; prior supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong swimming ability and the physical stamina to perform rescues and respond to emergencies.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to swim long distances, remain standing for extended periods, and perform physical tasks such as lifting, reaching, bending, and climbing.
  • Must be over the age of 18.
  • Ability to lead emergency response efforts with confidence and professionalism.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is typically performed indoors and outdoors at the resort. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high during peak Swim Club days and special events.

The work involves a majority of standing, bending, stooping, twisting, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs. This role requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including direct sun and high temperatures.
