Job Description - Aircraft Pilot IV or V - Aviation Division (2502936)

Overview

Aircraft Pilot IV or V - Aviation Division - (2502936). Performs advanced aviation-related work, piloting all aircraft in the Department’s fleet and providing transport services for passengers and cargo. Work involves planning and coordinating aeronautical operations. The position requires extensive and overnight travel for on-call flight operations in a PART 91 program serving state officials and employees of Texas.

Responsibilities
  • Acts as pilot in command on high-profile and complex missions and flight operations.
  • Oversees and supports aviation standard operating procedures (SOP) development and compliance.
  • Provides guidance and support to less experienced pilots.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of training programs and safety initiatives.
  • As required, assists with emergency operations by airlifting equipment, supplies and/or people.
  • Compiles and prepares necessary reports.
  • Coordinates and schedules flight plans with applicable flight service staff and maintains flight records.
  • Inspects condition of aircraft and maintains records pertaining to operation of aircraft.
  • Maintains flight skills and stays updated on aviation developments, industry standards, and relevant laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Operates single- and multi-engine fixed-wing aircraft to transport passengers and designated goods.
  • Reads applicable advisory notices, obtains weather data and interprets/applies data based on flight plan; adjusts schedules and routes as required.
  • Responsible for and ensures safe operation of aircraft and safety of passengers, crew and support staff; administers first aid to others if needed.
  • May perform other duties such as flight operations, maintenance management, aviation safety, pilot training and drone operations.
  • May serve as a lead worker by serving as a resource for complex questions; presents workflow and operational updates to the supervisor/manager; provides input on team members’ career conversations; and approves leave requests to ensure operations coverage.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Advises on aviation program development.
  • Serves as pilot training, safety, and operations officer and assists Chief Pilot/Section Director as directed.
  • Acts as pilot in command on high-profile and complex missions.
  • Leads safety and operational audits.
  • Coordinates with law enforcement and emergency response.
Minimum Qualifications

Education (all levels): High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience: Military fixed-wing or corporate flight experience may substitute for required flight hours or years of experience. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications may be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent.

Pilot IV - 7 years of piloting experience, including at least 3,500 hours total flight time, 1,000 multi-engine fixed wing, and 500 hours multi-engine turbine fan as Pilot in Command (PIC).

Pilot V - 8 years piloting experience, including 4,000 hours total flight time, 1,500 hours multi-engine fixed wing, and 1,000 hours multi-engine turbo fan as PIC.

Licenses and Certifications (all levels):

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Cert Flight Instructor (CFI). CE 680/680A type-200 hours PIC. Must be type rated in a turbine multi-engine fixed-wing turbo fan/prop aircraft. First Class Medical Cert. All flight licenses and certificates must be issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Additionally, must possess a First-Class Airman Medical Certificate issued under Part 67 of the FAA regulations.
